My January Review: Progress, Plateaus, and Adjustments for February
Even life coaches miss the mark sometimes. When it comes to goal setting, growth isn’t about perfection—it’s about learning the whole way, adjusting as needed, and persevering everyday. As I wrap up January, I’m reflecting on the wins, the setbacks, and the lessons I’m carrying forward into February. While doing so, I decided I would share these monthly reviews with y’all as I believe that the monthly review process can make or break one’s path to goal achievement. Yes, it is THAT important!
Fitness Goals: A Milestone Reached but a Plateau Remains
One of my biggest goals for 2025 is to run “A Million Meters” – which is 1,000 Km but, lets face it, a million meters is a lot more fun to say. Of course 1,000 Km is a big goal, can’t do that all at once as it is a year long goal, so that means my running goal for January was to hit 85 km of running—and I barely made it, finishing at 85.02 km! Whew! Only having taken 5 no-run days, that’s a huge win for consistency in my fitness journey! However, when it comes to my secondary fitness goal of weight loss, I’ve continued to sit at the same frustrating plateau I’ve been stuck at for four months.
What does this mean? Not failure—just information. Clearly, running alone isn’t enough to push through this plateau, and I need to refocus on nutrition. I knew this was an area I needed to prioritize, but I didn’t give it the attention it deserved. This review makes that gap obvious, and now I can make a plan to change it. Making clear plans is the best path to overcoming plateaus.
YouTube Growth: Small Wins, Room for More
Another big bite goal this month was for my YouTube content creation and YouTube growth. My 2025 has a huge goal of 100 high value decent quality long form videos and 100 YouTube shorts. Yes, that is ambitious, I know, I do have a tendency to bite off more than I can chew… Anyway, I figure if I can average 2 of each per week throughout the year, I will hit that goal – 52 weeks x 2 equals over 100, allowing myself to have 2 off weeks. Well, that meant I needed about 8 of each in January… So I had my goal of consistent video production for YouTube, but I only completed about 40% of what I planned. However, I did gain my first three subscribers, which means progress is happening!
The biggest obstacle? Finding uninterrupted time to create. As a homeschooling mom of five kids, I knew this would be a challenge. When creating my goal, I identified this as my main obstacle, but failed to create a plan to maneuver that obstacle. What happened as a result? You guessed it, January proved that I need a more strategic approach. Moving forward, I have two options:
- Adjust my schedule—wake up earlier, stay up later, or carve out filming sessions on weekends or evenings when dad can keep the kids occupied.
- Adjust my goals—perhaps scaling back to one video per week instead of two.
Since my long-term vision for YouTube requires consistency and persistence, I’m choosing option one – for now. But I’ll continue to extend myself grace, knowing that improvement comes with time and practice. Perhaps, this first quarter will average a much lower upload rate, but by the time 3rd quarter rolls around, I will be able to bring that average up. As of right now, I still plan to achieve my YouTube content creation goals. As well as my blogging goal here, by the way, which is 1 high quality useful blog per week. Yes, I know, I have some catching up to do on that, too. -winks-
The Key Takeaway? Review, Adjust, Recommit, Just Don’t Quit!
This monthly review isn’t about dwelling on what didn’t go perfectly as planned—it’s about using those insights to grow. Which actually turns every single little “failure“, into its own little success. Success isn’t about hitting every goal flawlessly. It’s about showing up, learning from the process, and making the necessary changes to keep moving forward, no matter what.
So here’s my commitments to myself for February:
✅ Keep my running goal steady while fine-tuning my nutrition.
✅ Protect my content creation time and prioritize filming.
✅ Bring my total blog posts amount up to 6.
✅ Stay consistent, but remain flexible where needed.
If you’re working on your own goals, I encourage you to reflect on what’s working, what’s not, and what small adjustments you can make to keep progressing.
